How to get a local business found on Google

The practical foundation for local visibility: a complete Business Profile, a useful website, consistent information and content that helps real customers.

Claim and complete the Google Business Profile

For eligible local businesses, the Business Profile is one of the most important foundations because it can appear in Google Search and Maps. Add accurate hours, phone number, website, categories, photos and location or service-area information.

If someone else already controls the profile, use Google's ownership process rather than creating a duplicate.

Give Google a useful website to connect to

The website should clearly identify the business and explain its services. For a local company, make the city, neighborhood or service area understandable to customers without stuffing location names into every sentence.

Google also supports LocalBusiness structured data, which can help describe details such as the business type, address and hours in a machine-readable format.

Keep business information consistent

Customers lose confidence when the website says one phone number and the Maps listing says another. Keep the core identity consistent across the website, Business Profile, Apple Maps, major social profiles and important directories.

Build pages around real customer intent

A contractor may need pages explaining individual services and service areas. A restaurant may need a menu, hours and ordering information. A barber may need services, pricing and booking information.

Create pages because they answer useful questions, not because you want hundreds of nearly identical city pages.

Earn real reviews and respond professionally

Reviews can help customers judge a business before they visit or call. Ask real customers for honest feedback when appropriate. Never manufacture reviews, buy fake reviews or pressure customers to leave only positive feedback.

Technical basics still matter

The site needs to load, work on mobile, use HTTPS, be crawlable and link internally to important pages. A sitemap can help search engines discover public pages. Structured data can add context, but it does not guarantee rankings.

Measure what actually happens

Use Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and website analytics to see which pages receive impressions, clicks and referrals. If one guide starts attracting searches, improve it with better examples and clearer answers instead of publishing dozens of unrelated posts.
